The U.S. Senate is scheduled to vote on the Common Cents Act as soon as Monday of next week. NACS is asking members to urge their Senators to support this critical legislation, which would allow cash transactions to be rounded to the nearest 5 cents. The process is easy: Click HERE to complete NACS' Call to Action and contact your Senators.

Without federal legislation, rounding transactions could put retailers out of compliance with certain laws and bring the threat of lawsuits. Some retailers have been rounding only in the customer’s favor, which can lead to unplanned costs to the business and violate laws.

The House unanimously voted to pass the Common Cents Act on Monday, September 14. If the act is passed by the Senate next week, it will go to the president to be signed into law—an important legislative victory for NACS members and other retailers alike.

"Passage of the Common Cents Act into law is a top priority for NACS," said Brennan Duckett, director of regulatory and policy for NACS. "We need members' help. Please, use our Call to Action to ask your Senators for their vote in support of this important legislation."

Resolving this issue is a top priority for NACS, and we will continue to update our members as the situation evolves.

NACS serves the global convenience and fuel retailing industry by providing industry knowledge, connections and issues leadership to ensure the competitive viability of its members’ businesses.
