On Monday afternoon, President Donald Trump expressed his support for the Credit Card Competition Act (CCCA) publicly, marking the seventh time that he or Vice President J.D. Vance have made such an endorsement of the legislation this year.
“These repeated endorsements from President Trump and Vice President Vance show just how strongly they believe in the Credit Card Competition Act,” said NACS Senior Vice President of Government Relations and General Counsel Doug Kantor. “The American people deserve relief from sky-high credit card swipe fees now. Congress should follow the lead of the President and Vice President and get this done.”
At a stump speech in Kansas for Senator Roger Marshall, the lead sponsor of the bill, the president said, “Roger is also the number one champion fighting to protect hardworking Americans and small businesses from predatory credit card companies and out of control swipe fees.”
Monday’s statement was the second endorsement that the president has provided for the bill in a week. Just last Monday, the president posted a similar message of support on Truth Social: “Roger is working tirelessly to pass the Credit Card Competition Act, in order to stop the out of control Swipe Fee ripoff!” NACS maintains a running list of the president’s and vice president’s endorsements of the bill.
“Swipe fees are one of the largest costs faced by businesses in the convenience and fuel retailing industry,” said Kantor. “NACS has been working tirelessly to help pass the Credit Card Competition Act, and we’re delighted to see it getting the support that it deserves, from the President and Vice President to Democratic members of Congress. Having competition to reduce credit card swipe fees is something people can agree on across the partisan divide.”
