Chipotle visits rose 5.8% in Q2 2026 and 6.0% in Q3, compared to the corresponding quarter in 2025, according to recent research from foot traffic research firm Placer.ai.

Placer.ai highlighted that in 2026 Chipotle same-store traffic is accelerating and the chain is outperforming the wider fast-casual segment. The broader channel visits grew 2.2% in Q2 2026 and 1.9% in Q3.

“While expansion contributed to [Chipotle’s] growth, same-store visits also rose YoY throughout the period, with gains strengthening in September—showing that existing restaurants are drawing more traffic, too,” Placer.ai wrote.

Research points to Chipotle’s success being at least partly attributable to its deliberate play for younger consumers. The chain rolled out its Chipotle U Rewards for college students in August 2025 and relaunched its broader loyalty program in April 2026, citing the growing share of younger diners who choose restaurants based on rewards. The QSR also featured a rotation of LTO menu items. It launched its first-ever dual LTO in September. It also has been offering BOGO deals like the World Cup Matchday Soccer BOGO in June and a School Spirit BOGO in August.

“And these efforts seem to be finding a receptive audience. In Q3 2026, 18-29-year-olds accounted for 18.1% of Chipotle’s captured market, compared with 17.3% for the wider fast-casual segment,” Placer.ai concluded.

Over the summer, the QSR opened its first location in Mexico in San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León, part of the Monterrey metropolitan area, in partnership with Alsea.

“This restaurant is the first location to open under the development agreement Chipotle and Alsea announced in April 2025. Building on this market entry, Chipotle and Alsea plan to open additional restaurants in Nuevo León later this year and expand into Mexico City in 2027,” the QSR said.
