At campaign event on Sunday evening, November 1, President Trump endorsed the Credit Card Competition Act (CCCA) yet again. This was the ninth such endorsement that President Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance have made in recent months, demonstrating their vigorous support for lowering credit card swipe fees.
“If you re-elect Roger Marshall, I will sign his bill … limiting out of control … credit card swipe fees, saving you an estimated at least $2,000 per year,” Trump said. “That’s a big thing … it’s important.”
“Whether it’s President Trump or Vice President Vance, White House endorsements of swipe fee reform just keep coming,” NACS Senior Vice President of Government Relations and General Counsel Doug Kantor said. “But this is not just a White House effort. Affordability is a key issue right now, and members of Congress from across the political spectrum agree that it’s time to stand up for Main Street and bring these fees under control. Regardless of what happens in this week’s elections, this is an issue where Republicans, Democrats and independents can work together to protect American families and small businesses against Wall Street greed.”
Last night’s remarks were delivered at a rally for Senator Roger Marshall, a key sponsor of the CCCA, in Salina, Kansas.
While the president was speaking, the Republican National Committee tweeted his comments about the CCCA, demonstrating formal support for the bill at the party level.
Just a week ago, on October 26, at another event for Sen. Marshall, Vice President Vance provided a similar statement of support. He told the crowd, “Roger is also the number one champion fighting to protect hardworking Americans and small businesses from predatory credit card companies and out of control swipe fees.”
Swipe fees are one of the largest costs faced by businesses in the convenience and fuel retailing industry, and NACS members would benefit substantially from the lower swipe fees that are expected to result from the bill’s passage. NACS has been instrumental in advancing the CCCA since its inception, and our government relations team has worked tirelessly to not only ensure that the bill is gaining support in Congress, but also that it gets the publicity that it deserves.
