On July 24, tens of thousands of convenience stores across the United States will once again come together for one simple purpose: saying thank you to the people who never stop serving their communities.

The eighth annual 24/7 Day, organized by the NACS Foundation, brings together more than 100 convenience retailing companies and brands representing over 30,000 stores nationwide in what has become the industry's largest coordinated celebration of first responders. This year's theme, "Serving Up Thanks," recognizes the unique connection between convenience stores and the everyday heroes who protect communities around the clock.

For convenience retailers, the connection is deeply personal. As some of the only businesses open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, c-stores often remain operational during natural disasters, severe weather events and other emergencies. Store teams regularly witness firsthand the dedication of police officers, firefighters, EMTs, nurses, doctors, 9-1-1 professionals and American Red Cross volunteers as they work long hours under extraordinary circumstances.

"We know first responders don't do it for recognition—they do it because they genuinely care about people," said Kevin O'Connell, executive director of the NACS Foundation. "Every year, we gather as an industry to honor this commitment because we see firsthand the sacrifice, dedication and bravery it takes to run toward an emergency when the rest of us are evacuating or fleeing. This is an important moment to recognize those who keep us safe."

To express that appreciation, participating retailers across the country will offer complimentary items and special promotions—including free coffee, meals and branded merchandise—to first responders and American Red Cross volunteers who present a valid badge or arrive in uniform on July 24. This year's celebration includes a diverse group of convenience retailers and suppliers from across the country, from regional family-owned businesses to national brands, demonstrating the industry's shared commitment to recognizing those who serve others every day.

The complete list of participating retailers, available offers and an interactive map of participating locations is available on the 24/7 Day website.

The American Red Cross, whose volunteers are being recognized during this year's event, says the partnership highlights the often-unseen contributions of those who respond during times of crisis.

"Whether responding to disasters, collecting lifesaving blood, supporting military families or helping communities prepare for emergencies, the American Red Cross sees firsthand the compassion and dedication that our volunteers bring to their communities every day," said Nathan Measom, senior director of national cause marketing for the American Red Cross. "We're honored that these everyday heroes are recognized alongside first responders, and we're grateful to the NACS Foundation and thousands of convenience stores nationwide for reminding them that their service never goes unnoticed."

First Responder of the Year Award

The day will also shine a spotlight on one extraordinary individual through the NACS Foundation's First Responder of the Year Award. The 2026 first place winner will be announced on 24/7 Day and will receive free gasoline for a year (up to a $2,500 value), courtesy of media partner GSTV, along with a $500 gift card from InComm Payments. The honoree will also be recognized by their hometown convenience store and celebrated on stage during the 2026 NACS Show in Las Vegas.

Two runners-up will also be honored on July 24, also with a $500 gift card from InComm Payments, recognition from their local c-store, and a trip to the NACS Show.

There Is Still Time to Get Involved

The NACS Foundation is still accepting participants for the 2026 event—from retailers and suppliers to any company or organization with an allied interest in first responder, response relief or similar causes. Interested supporters can contact Kevin O’Connell, executive director of the NACS Foundation, to participate.

Additionally, all organizations, first responder groups and members of the public are encouraged to take part in the celebration by thanking first responders in their communities.

Be sure to visit participating convenience stores on July 24—the interactive map can direct interested parties to the closest participating location. Communities and teams can also support the American Red Cross through charitable donations and sharing messages of appreciation on social media using #247Day and #ConvenienceCares.

NACS serves the global convenience and fuel retailing industry by providing industry knowledge, connections and issues leadership to ensure the competitive viability of its members’ businesses.
