Plus other QSRs announce promotions and menu additions.

A handful of quick-service restaurants announced new menu items this month, along with promotions and value offers to bring in customers for the summer.

Some, like Starbucks’ new pairing menu for a small coffee and breakfast item starting at $5, come as QSRs, like McDonald’s and Burger King, announced $5 meal deals designed to draw in customers. McDonald’s had stated that restrained consumer spending was one reason for a lack of growth in Q1, announcing that it was increasing its promotions and deals across most of its U.S. locations to entice customers that are focused on getting more bang for their buck.

Here’s a look at what’s new.

Deals:

  • Starbucks: The coffee chain rolled out a new "Pairings Menu," which combines a drink and a breakfast item for a discount. The offer comes with two options: For $5, a customer can order a tall iced or hot coffee or an iced or hot tea paired with a croissant. The second choice costs $6, which also includes the option of the drinks plus any breakfast sandwich. Prices will rise if alterations are made, including ordering a larger drink or customizing the food, reported ABC 7.
  • White Castle: The burger chain is focusing on celebrating holiday deals this summer, with promotions for Father’s Day, the Summer Solstice, Fourth of July and food-related holidays including National Onion Day, Cheesecake Day and French Fries Day. Deals include options like BOGO shakes, BOGO sliders, BOGO combo meals, BOGO fries and BOGO desserts.

New menu items:

  • Subway: The sub shop debuted Footlong Dippers, “hot, cheesy and craveable footlong snacks” in a lavash wrap for $3. The dippers come in three iterations: Pepperoni and cheese; chicken and cheese; and double cheese and are served with one of Subway's 11 signature sauces.
  • QDOBA: Mexican fast-casual retailer QDOBA added a new limited time only protein, Habanero Lime Steak, to its menu. The “tender grilled steak [is] tossed in fiery habanero sauce, lime juice and fresh cilantro, and sautéed in-house over an open flame,” said the company.
  • Wendy’s: a new Frosty has hit the Wendy’s menu—the Triple Berry Frosty LTO “combines three of the freshest fruit flavors of the season, strawberry, blackberry and raspberry, into one sweet summer treat,” said the company in a press release.

In the convenience channel, EG America launched a $4 donut combo. With this deal, customers can purchase two donuts and a large hot or iced coffee for $4 through early September. The retailer also launched a $5 meal deal, available until September 3. The deal includes any two roller grill or pizza items, a drink and a side of chips. Drink options include a Pepsi Mountain Dew, Aquafina or Brisk one liter, and customers can choose between Lay’s, Miss Vickie’s, Ruffles or Sun Chips.
