Wawa Breaks Ground In Three New States

The retailer began construction in Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana.

Wawa has officially broken ground on its first stores in Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana.

In Kentucky, Wawa hosted double header groundbreaking events as the retailer began construction on two stores, located at 9650 Preston Crossing Boulevard, Louisville, Kentucky, and 3012 Lexington Road, Nicholasville, Kentucky. The stores are projected to open late in the second quarter of 2025.

“We are excited to begin construction on our stores in Kentucky as we get closer to bringing the unique Wawa experience to new customers in more markets,” said Joe Collins, director of store operations for Wawa. “We look forward to continuing to spread our wings in Kentucky and can’t wait to get started serving our new friends and neighbors.”

Wawa will begin construction on five more stores in 2024, with projected openings in late second quarter or third quarter 2025. In 2025, Wawa plans to open nine stores in Kentucky. Over the next five to eight years, Wawa plans to build and open five to eight stores per year in the Louisville and Lexington area, with plans to open up to 40 stores in the state.

As part of the groundbreaking, Wawa and The Wawa Foundation announced contributions to two community partners in Kentucky. Dare to Care and God’s Pantry Food Banks each received a grant of $10,000 from The Wawa Foundation Fly Beyond Fund, a signature initiative to fight food insecurity and support programs providing good, nutritious food to build healthy habits and help kids thrive.

In Ohio, the retailer officially broke ground on its first location at 5308 Fields Ertel Road, Cincinnati, Ohio. The store is projected to open in the second quarter of 2025.

Wawa will begin construction on five Ohio stores in 2024, with projected openings in second quarter 2025. In 2025, Wawa plans to open 11 stores in Ohio. Over the next five to eight years, Wawa plans to build and open six to 10 stores per year in Ohio, with plans to open up to 60 stores in the state.

As part of the groundbreaking, Wawa and The Wawa Foundation granted $10,000 from The Wawa Foundation Fly Beyond Fund to Freestore Food Bank.

At 3835 East 96th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, Wawa broke ground on its first Indiana location. As with the other new stores announced, the store is projected to open in the second quarter of 2025.

Wawa currently plans to begin construction on seven Indiana locations in 2024, all projected to open in second quarter of 2025. In 2025, Wawa plans to open 10 stores in Indiana. Over the next five to eight years, Wawa plans to build and open eight to 12 stores per year in Indiana with plans to open up to 60 stores in the state.

Local Gleaners Food Bank received a grant of $10,000 from The Wawa Foundation Fly Beyond Fund.
