Stewart’s Shops and Cubby's both announced winners of their scholarship funds this month, awarding funds to employees or children of employees to attend universities in the fall.

Stewart’s Make-Your-Own (MYO) Scholarship committee awarded $480,000 to 92 students in the Stewart’s family for tuition at major universities, SUNY colleges, community colleges, and vocational schools.

Since its inception, the scholarship program has supported 678 students, providing a total of $7.4 million in scholarships. “It’s a testament to Stewart’s commitment to helping families and empowering students to pursue their academic and career aspirations,” wrote Stewart’s in a press release.

Cubby’s awarded funds to ten recipients of the 2024 Stephen Falk Memorial Scholarship, awarded annually to employees or children of employees. Winners of the scholarships are selected by a committee based on their academic record, test scores, extracurricular and workplace involvement, recommendations, and an essay. The funds can be used for any college-related expenses.

The Stephen Falk Scholarship was established in 1998 in memory of Stephen Falk, son of Cubby’s co-founder Max Falk. Cubby’s Inc. has awarded nearly $400,000 in scholarships since the fund was established.

“Cubby’s is proud to give back to those we serve, and we are particularly grateful for the commitment our employees show us through their dedicated employment,” said De Lone Wilson, president of Cubby’s. “These scholarships are one of the initiatives we are most proud of, and we look forward to this every year.”
