Convenience Cares

Convenience stores are often the front-line supporters of first responders during times of emergency, providing fuel, food, water and a safe place to gather.

On July 24, 2021, 34 convenience retail companies participated in the third annual 24/7 Day, hosted by the NACS Foundation, at more than 30,000 c-store locations across the United States.

The NACS Foundation united convenience stores across America in recognizing first responders, medical personnel and American Red Cross volunteers who work around the clock, 24/7, serving our communities to ensure people don’t face emergencies alone. The annual event helps raise awareness and donations for the urgent humanitarian needs of the American Red Cross and spotlights our industry’s critical role in supporting local heroes and the communities we serve.

It’s our goal in every community to be the best neighbor we can be,” said Nicholas Ruffner, public relations manager for Sheetz, a 24/7 Day Community Leader Sponsor.

“We’ve developed a strong relationship with those who keep us safe, and we wanted to honor their service on July 24,” Ruffner said.

These front-line workers and first responders are our neighbors, friends and customers,” added Corey Cuvelier, convenience retailing manager for the U.S. at Shell, a 24/7 Day Community Advocate Sponsor.

“Our participation in 24/7 Day recognizes their sacrifices and is one way we can express our sincere appreciation for their work in keeping our communities safe and secure.”

NACS Foundation Supports Future Leaders

Many industry leaders began at the store level and followed their career paths to senior leadership positions. For nearly 30 years, the NACS Foundation has been helping these individuals grow their career path through higher education.

The NACS Foundation Future Fund Program supports convenience store employees who demonstrate the potential and the determination to hold future positions of senior leadership in the industry. Since inception, the program has awarded more than $500,000 in scholarships to NACS retail members.

The annual scholarship program provides a way for convenience and fuel retailers to retain, reward and develop the next generation of industry innovators. The winners receive $3,000 toward tuition costs of undergraduate or community college education. They also receive a stipend to attend the NACS Show, where they are recognized during a special ceremony and given a firsthand opportunity to learn more about the exciting career paths in the convenience industry.
